Intricate discussions of the current issues in film theory, from sound production to documentaries, keep readers' perspectives on film fresh and informed. Part I introduces readers to the importance of film analysis, offering helpful strategies for discerning the way films produce meaning. Part II examines the fundamental elements of film, including narrative form, mise en scène, cinematography, editing, and sound, and shows how these concepts can be used to interpret films. Part III frames the debates around ideological criticism, national and transnational cinema, and genre and auteur theory that animate contemporary film scholarship.

This textbook is required for my Film and Image and Film and Narrative classes. It is sold at my bookstore for 180$, so buying it here was an incredible deal. What I did realize after purchasing it is that this book is quite thick; two times thicker than the version of the textbook sold by the university bookstore. that being said, the pages coincide, so as a student I would definitely recommend buying it here. As a read, the book is very insightful on many aspects of film and I am finding it an incredibly useful tool. This is a textbook I do not plan to sell, because I want to keep it as a reference for future projects

5.0 out of 5 stars good selection of chapters and content
